Love for games

Growing up, we played a lot of board games. To me it was the most normal thing in the world, and I naively thought everyone does this. Well, I married into a non-game-playing family. Joe parents didn't like to play game, because they didn't want their kids to be too competitive with each other. This is so foreign to me. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am very competitive. I don't have it in me to play nice, just to let someone else win or advance in the game. The only exclusion in that statement is when I play games with my kids. Of course I want them to have that great feeling of winning a game.
My mom is here visiting, and today she reminded me of my childhood. She plays games like "memory" with my kids. The kids love it, and it makes me feel guilty that I don't play board games with them more often. It really amazes me how smart the kids are, especially with their short term memory. I wish I could say that I play easy for them, but the truth is that I'm just not smart enough for that. If I don't pay total attention, I won't even come close to a tie.

I know I have said this when commenting on a previous post, but we are in the same boat. I LOVE LOVE LOVE games and could play them for hours. All of my siblings do to, probably because we used to sit around for hours growing up playing all types. But until you mentioned the fact that you don't play games often enough with your kids the thought never crossed my mind. I am always worried about making sure we get story time in and enough play time outside, but I forget how much fun board games can be!

You know that I love to play games. I REALLLLLLLY miss my game playing buddy. Who you ask? You of course! You know one day we went to buy some kids clothes at some poeples house I found on Craigs list and while I looked through the clothes my son played Uno with the day and boy there and he balled when we had to leave b/c he wanted to keep playing. We have played it with him a few times since, he doesn't quite get the concept but he has fun.

I understand: I love games but most of them are boring to my husband. Nevertheless, he'll always win: scrabble, rummikub, etc. he still always wins!
