This is my new Eggplant. I read that it can become heavy, and should be staked down. Old nylons are supposed to work good, because it doesn't cut into the plant

Don't wish for it to stop raining. As soon as the spring rains end you'll have to start watering with salty, chlorine-laced water you have to pay for. You could lay a board over that mud, though, or build a gate in the fence where it isn't muddy.
